Men, women finish in top half at Loyola Lakefront Invitational

On a windy and rainy day in Chicago, the Trinity men's and women's cross country teams took to Montrose Beach to race in the Loyola University Invitational.

Although the course was muddy, both teams were able to find success at the meet and finish in the top half of the field of competition.

The women's team raced first in the Gold Division, finishing 12th of 31 teams that competed. The top contender for the women was freshman Julie O'Sullivan, who ran a time of 19:42 in the 5K race. She finished in 18th overall in the meet out of 281 runners.

Rounding out the top three for the Trolls was Allie Boss and Mikayla Van Laan. Boss ran a time of 20:08 to finish in 45th today while VanLaan finished in 47th with a time of 20:09.

For the men, they finished in 16th out of 31 teams in the Gold Division of today's meet. Brantley VanOverloop led the way for the Trolls today, running a 27:04 on the 8K course. Overall, he finished in 29th out of 274 runners.

The other two that finished in the top three for the Trolls was Ryan Mathes and Andrew Dobrescu. Mathes finished in 71st with a time of 27:58 while Dobrescu finished in 74th with a time of 28:03.

The Trolls will have a week off before they're back in action again at the St. Ambrose University Invitational on Oct. 12.
