Serving and blocking help Trolls secure quarterfinal win over Eagles

The Trinity women's volleyball team competed in the quarterfinal round of the CCAC tournament, where they were seeded No. 1 and faced the No. 8 Judson University Eagles. Both teams put up a fight throughout the match, but the Trolls prevailed in the end, winning the match 3-1.

The first set, the two teams went back and forth until service runs from freshman Kenzie Gibson and junior Brianna Figueroa gave the Trolls the lead and the set with a score of 25-17.

In the second set, the Eagles were the ones who grabbed the lead and tried to run with it. Although the Trolls came back multiple times, Judson was the team that was able to finish out the set, winning 28-26.

The Trolls dominated the Eagles in the last two sets as they secured 25-11 and 25-17 wins, which ultimately won them the match.

The outside hitters for Trinity led the team today in senior Ana Lambros and junior Anna Maatman, who each recorded 12 kills on the night. Maatman had a double-double by adding 12 digs while Lambros recorded nine.

Senior Dani Van Laten led the offense again with 41 assists on the night while also adding 15 digs and three aces. Figueroa led the backrow defense with 28 digs. In the front row, junior Mady Zula had a season-high seven blocks in the four sets while also registering eight kills.

With this win, the Trolls will now move onto the semifinal round of the CCAC tournament. They will play whoever wins between No. 4 Trinity International and No. 5 St. Francis. The game will be at DeVos Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.
