The Trinity women's volleyball team was fighting for the top spot in the conference tonight against the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints. Although the match was tight the entire way through, the Trolls were the ones who swept the Saints.
In the first set, Trinity took an early lead and didn't give the Fighting Saints much room to come back. They kept the pressure on throughout the whole set, ultimately winning 25-15.
During the second set, both teams did not want to give up. They stayed even with each other throughout the entire match, with no team getting a huge lead. Even when the set went into extra points, neither team was letting the ball hit the ground. But it was the Trolls who were able to get out in front, winning the set 30-28.
The third and final set started close, but the Trolls were able to pull ahead toward the end and never looked back. Trinity beat St. Francis 25-19 to end the match.
Three Trolls ended the night with a double-double. Sophmore Sarah Kiwan, junior Anna Maatman and senior Dani Van Laten each had their own. Kiwan finished with 11 kills and 13 digs, Maatman recorded 12 kills and 10 digs, and Van Laten added 35 sets and 12 digs to the stat sheet. Also contributing for the Trolls was junior Brianna Figueroa with 19 digs.
Trinity will be back in action again on Tuesday as they head to Robert Morris-Illinois for another CCAC match.
