After losing both matches yesterday, the Trinity women's volleyball team came into today ready to change the dynamic for this tournament. The team fought close with their competition all day long and ended the day going 1-1.
The Trolls started off the day at 10 a.m. facing a tough competitor in Marian University. The two teams battled throughout the entire match, taking it all the way to five sets. But in the end, the Knights came out on top as the Trolls lost 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25 and 15-17.
Multiple hitters were able to put the ball down during that match for Trinity. Anna Maatman led the offensive effort, finishing with 16 kills while also adding 15 digs. Sarah Kiwan was close behind with 15 kills while Britta Heggeland had 14. Amber Ryan also finished in the double-digits with 10.
After a break for Cornerstone and Marian to face off, the Trolls were back on the court. This time, they were facing Cornerstone, who was just coming off a loss to Marian.
The Trolls took advantage, and ultimately beat Cornerstone in three straight sets, going 25-21, 25-12 and 25-23.
Maatman and Kiwan led the team offensively again this match, finishing with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Van Laten had the most digs this match 14 while Heggeland contributed three blocks.
The Trolls now have a record of 2-5 overall. They will hit the court again Sept. 5 to open up CCAC play against Trinity International.
