Shootout results in a loss for Trolls in CCAC tournament

The Trinity women's soccer team competed in the semifinal round of the CCAC tournament today against the Cardinal Stritch Wolves. Although the Trolls beat the Wolves in the regular season, Cardinal Stritch came out with the win today.

The first half remained scoreless between the two teams with no one finding the back of the net. It wasn't until the 69th minute that Kira Schuster from Cardinal Stritch scored off a corner kick.

But with 11 minutes left in the second half, sophomore Brianna Uhl worked her way past the Wolves' defense off a pass from senior Taylor Miller to tie up the game.

From there, the teams played two 10-minute overtime periods, with both resulting in the same 1-1 score. The match ended in a tie, but with the playoffs on the line, a winner needed to be decided, which resulted in a shootout. In the shootout, the Trolls lost to the Wolves 1-3, which resulted in a loss and a chance to make it to the CCAC championship game.

The Trolls will wait to see if they earn the second automatic bid through the CCAC or if they receive an at-large bid to the NAIA tournament. Updates will be given once they are available.
