From the moment both teams stepped on the court, the Trinity men's basketball team took control of the game against the Indiana University South Bend Titans. The Titans, who were sitting at fifth in the conference, were not able to stop Trinity's offense.
In both halves, the Trolls outshot the Titans. Trinity recorded 39 and 44 points throughout the contest while Indiana South Bend only registered 32 and 38 points, leading to a score of 83-70 in favor of the Trolls. This is Trinity's first conference win of the season.
"The key for today was stand up, and we stood up against IU-South Bend," said Trinity head men's basketball coach Jason Hawkins. "We had good defensive execution and offensive execution."
Leading the Trolls tonight was senior Deantre DeYoung, who recorded 19 points along with 10 rebounds to give him his first double-double of the season. Junior TJ Lacey also stepped up for the Trolls, recording 18 points, four assists and three steals for his best game of the season.
Along with DeYoung and Lacey, three other Trolls finished with double-digit points including redshirt sophomore James Pennington (14 points, five assists), senior Josh Shannon (13 points, four assists, four steals, two blocks) and junior Josh Decker (10 points, eight rebounds).
Trinity will squeeze in one more game before Thanksgiving as they head to Valparaiso University to compete in an exhibition match. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
